Namaskar !!
After the grand success of Nritya Mela 2018 and 2019, and a sad pause in 2020 and 2021 because of the pandemic, it is our pleasure to invite you back to Nritya Mela 2022, an event organized by Agomoni, a non-profit organization, to
promote Classical and Folk dances of India. This is one of the most prestigious Indian dance events in the Bay Area wherevarious schools & groups are welcome to showcase their quality art form in a unique environment.
Not outdoors, not in a school MPR, we are going to have this in a state-of-the-art theater, with in-person performances, on stage with professional lights and ambience, and above all, in front of live audience – something that we all have been deprived for over two years!
What is Nritya Mela
Nritya Mela is a platform where we invite all Dance schools or Groups of bay area to present their art including Indian Classical Dance forms (such as Bharat Natyam, Odissi, Kathak, Kuchipudi, Manipuri and so on), Semi-Classical forms and Indian Folk Dance forms (such as Bhangra, Chou, Bihu, Lavani and so on). Our vision is to present and promote these dance forms and recognize the respected Gurus whole heartedly, who with their tireless efforts, continue to nurture
interests within the community and pass on the originality of these forms to the next generations.
This is not a dance competition, although every participant will get a recognition for participation. There are no age restrictions for participation. Individual Dance School Gurus decide who participates. There is no specific theme we impose. It could be religious, based upon mythology, stories, legends, epics or even contemporary or any other innovative ideas, as long as the form is either Indian Classical, Semi-Classical or Indian Folk.

Format & Requirements
Group Performances/presentations can be categorized
Slot / Category Name | Time Duration (Maximum allowed) | # of Participants (Minimum required) |
Extended | 30 minutes | 15 minimum |
Long | 20 minutes | 11 minimum |
Medium | 15 minutes | 7 minimum |
Short | 10 minutes | 4 minimum |
Solo | 8 minutes | 1 |
Presence: The entire group of participants for a given performance should be completely ready and report to the backstage at least 30 minutes prior to their slot. The exact timings will be notified to the school in due course. We will provide green
rooms for make ups, touch ups, but we recommend that the bulk of the readiness be taken care of at home, prior to coming to the venue.
Setup & Props: Because there will be quite a long list of performances, we urge groups to use less or no specific props. We will have the stage & backdrops decorated with a neutral but decent taste and will recommend groups to stick to that. If at all you absolutely need to use a special prop, you are required to take it down right after your performance. You will
have only 2 minutes to do that, with lights off.
Music: Music pieces used for a given slot should be sent to us by September 5, 2021. Do not send all the music pieces merged for your school; send them separately – one music piece per slot, that your school is signing up for.
Pandemic awareness: We understand that we are still coming out of the pandemic. In lieu of that, we recommend that there should be no more than 4-6 dancers “on stage” and at “any given point in time”. Within a slot, dancers may enter, exit, and re-enter, but we request the Choreographer/Guru/Director to keep this in mind while planning the performance.Performers need not wear masks while performing, but audience needs to wear masks while indoor, always.
Dancer Repetitions Rule: Within a given slot, a participant can appear on stage multiple times - we understand that itdepends upon the choreography and performance needs. However, if a school is using two slots or more, across the slots there can be a maximum of 50% of participants who can have repeat appearances.
Participation Fees: To partially cover our costs, we are asking for a nominal $35 fee per participant per group slot and $60 for a solo slot. This includes two family viewing tickets as well. Additional family viewing tickets can be purchased ahead of time (with the participation fee) at $10 each. The same at the gate would be $15. Children 5 and under are admissible free of charge. As mentioned earlier, schools and groups opting for more than one slot can have a maximum of 50% of their participants repeat across the slots. For these repeating participants, we are asking for an additional $15 per participant.
